Hi, I’m Asami Hakim, founder of FutureSeeds. I’m a certified trauma-informed yoga teacher and somatic healing guide, offering private online sessions rooted in gentle movement, breathwork, and nervous system regulation.

With over 400 hours of training in yoga and meditation, I create a calm, supportive space where you can reconnect with your body, release stored stress, and feel safe to be yourself.

My practice, Somatic Healing Yoga, is not about pushing yourself or performing—it’s about coming home to your body with kindness and compassion. You can read more about somatic yoga [here].

I was born and raised mostly in Japan, and currently live in the New York City area with my husband and two fluffy adopted cats. 

 

Why I Teach Somatic Healing Yoga

Before becoming a somatic healing yoga teacher, I worked for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), where my passion was delivering life-saving education to refugee children displaced by war and violence. I supported communities in crisis—from Ukraine and Syria to Iraq and South Sudan—sometimes at the onset of conflict. I met countless children living in shock, carrying deep emotional wounds: trauma, fear, grief, and the overwhelming need for safety and stability.

It was in those moments that I realized that children and families desperately needed emotional healing before long-term resettlement, so they can live to their full potential. They needed a path to feel safe in their own bodies again.

This realization shaped my core belief: Everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—no matter where they are from or what they’ve experienced.

After leaving my UN career, I was introduced to yoga by my husband. What started as a curiosity soon became the core of my everyday life. Yoga helped quiet my racing thoughts, soften my nervous system, and reconnect me with my body—something I didn’t realize I had lost. Like many others, I had misunderstood yoga as just physical exercise. But in truth, it offered me something much deeper: emotional grounding, a sense of inner peace, and healing.

I learned through yoga how to listen to my body’s messages, set healthy boundaries, and practice holistic self-care. This personal healing journey inspired me to study somatic healing practices and trauma-informed yoga, so I could offer others the same tools that helped me rebuild my inner sense of safety.

Credentials & Training

Total of over 400 hours of training with focus on somatic healing and trauma informed yoga:

  • 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification
  • 100-Hour Somatic Healing Certification
  • 40-Hour Trauma-Informed Yoga Certification
  • 75-Hour Meditation Certification
  • Ongoing study in Polyvagal Theorynervous system regulation, breath-work (pranayama), and meditation

*Currently enrolled in a 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in yin yoga, breathwork, and meditation
